A memorable Spring Meeting

Despite weather forecasts which predicted Armageddon and following a night of some spectacular thunderstorms, the rains stayed away from our Spring Meeting and a fantastic day was had by all who attended. After extensive works over the last two years, and despite the extremely wet weather that had dogged the last few months, the course at Denham was superb, the welcome from the club magnificent and the food as amazing as ever. There were many highlights of the day but proide of place should go to the presenation made by our Chair, Tony Pigott, to our President, and CCGS stalwart for more than 50 years, Bryan Richardson. Brysie is to step down as President at our AGM in October and it was very appropriate that his service to the Society should be recognised at such a well-attended event.

Overall, we had 74 people for lunch and 72 golfers. We were particularly delighted that 33 of our 39 opponents were able to join us as this is the main purpose of the meeting - to say thank you for the wonderful hospitality that we receive each year. The competition was an 18 hole better ball stableford competition and the winners were Chris Goldie and Jacs Mosseri-Marlio, the Women's Captain of Royal Ashdown Forest. Their score of 42 points was just enough to take the honours ahead of Harry Latchman and Mark Gaunt of Ashridge who pipped Society Captain Guy McDonnell and Rob Macdonald of Brookmans Park on countback, both with scores of 41 points. The guest who finished nearest the pin on the 12th was Brian Kemp of Ramside and the member on the 8th was Martin Butcher.
