The rain relents for the Autumn Meeting

After the heavy rains which saw the cancellation of our matches at West Hill and Worcester, the Society's Autumn Meeting was played on a mild and dry day at Denham. With 5 trophies up for grabs, the competition was fierce but friendly throughout the day. The morning saw 18 holes of individual stableford. Richard Baker was the winner of the Calthorpe Trophy (Best Scratch) whilst Stuart Waterton won the Graham Cottrell Trophy for players with a handicap of 11 and under. Andy Needham secured the Ernest Smith Trophy for players with a handicap of 12 or more and also shared the County Championship with fellow Middlesex man, Nigel Ross. For the second consecutive year, Frank Collyer won the Methusaleh Trophy for players aged 65 or over.

After a maginficent lunch, we took to the fairways again to play for the Stanley Jackson Trophy - 9 holes of foursomes stableford. Ross and his parter Gladstone Small played exceptionally well - a return of 22 points - to win.

At the end of the day, the Society's AGM was held with various issues discussed vigorously.
