Society fights back to take the win!

In contrast to 2018, we were treated to bright sunshine and no wind on Saturday when our hosts made a bright start by taking each of the first four matches. However, CCGS were successful in each of the final two matches to trail by just 4-2 overnight. Having rested himself on Saturday, our resourceful Match Manager, Peter Howland, took his place in the starting line-up on Sunday morning, by which time a fresh breeze had developed to present the players with a slightly tougher challenge. Fortified by an excellent dinner in the Clubhouse on the previous evening and seemingly undaunted by any shortage of sleep which might have resulted from

the overnight change to British Summer Time, the CCGS team staged a spirited fightback on Sunday morning to steadily chip away at the deficit so that, with just one game still to be decided, the match was finely balanced at 5 ½ pts each. Happily, the CCGS final pairing of Tim Robinson & George Sharp proved more than equal to the task and their victory secured an overall CCGS win by 6 ½  to 5 ½. A very fine golf course, excellent weather and (as always) a most enjoyable weekend!
