History made at Spring Meeting

History was made at the 2022 Spring Meeting when Georgina Craddock, Lady Captain of Royal Ashdown Forest, became the first woman to win our annual competition. In partnership with Chris Goldie, Georgina contributed massively to a score of 46 points to take first place from John Ballinger (Worplesdon) and Stuart Waterton's 44 points. Graham Rose and Stewart Percy of Ashridge finished 3rd with 42 points. Wayne Osman was Nearest the Pin on 8 (for members) and Sam Humpston from Hollinwell on 12 (for guests).

There was a field of 68 players with 30 of the wonderful clubs who host us annually represented, as well as two very welcome visitors from our dear friends the Flamingos in Holland, Wulf van Alkemade and CCGS member PJ Bakker, the first Dutchman to play county cricket.

We were as always made to feel incredibly welcome at Denham. The course played well despite the pre-summer preparation work going on and the catering was absolutely top-class.

The Spring Meeting is our chance to say thank you to the clubs who entertain us so wonderfully every year, catch up with old friends and celebrate what our Society is all about. Our Captain, Neil Burns, and Chairman, Tony Pigott, both reiterated this message eloquently, leaving all present in no doubt of the Society's appreciation of our hosts. As is customary, the winning guest replied on behalf of all guests and Georgina, despite some nerves, did so with aplomb.

Final thanks must go to our Secretary Richard Baker who, once again, managed the whole event magnificently, coping with last-minute dropouts and changes with his usual calm and efficiency.
