At least the weather was wonderful!

Our opening fixture of the season did not go according to plan on the links but in every other way, it was a fantastic start to 2019. After many years of howling winds, freezing temperatures, rain, sleet and even snow, this year we were able to enjoy Rye's superb course in Spring like conditions. Glorious sunshine, warmth more akin to Spring and a tremendous sense of camaraderie were the highlights of the weekend as our hosts, yet again, welcomed us with open arms and a great time was had by all. Fair to say the golf did not go according to plan with the locals outplaying us from start to finish. On paper, the Society fielded a strong team but it was not good enough as we ended Day 1 with the match already lost at 13-3. The 8-0 whitewash on Saturday morning set the scene and, despite a a win and 4 halves on Saturday afternoon and a marginal improvement on Sunday morning with a couple of wins, we were second-best from start to finish. But, if you ask any of the 19 members of the Society who took part over the two days, all will agree that the weekend was a triumph in many ways!
